The University at Buffalo sees opportunity for minerals studies to foster growth in region

The University at Buffalo (UB) is asking the state of New York to designate a Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics in Buffalo. The university’s interest stems from concerns over global demand for rare earth minerals. The university claims that the center, which would focus on developing alternatives to key minerals such as rare earths, would be an opportunity for academia to boost private industry and job growth in the region.
